Over 100 ISIS suicide drones shot down by Puntland troops, says regional president

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – In an unprecedented military campaign, Puntland security forces have, for the first time in Somalia’s history, engaged foreign fighters deploying advanced loitering munitions, successfully neutralizing more than 100 suicide drones during a month-long offensive against ISIS, regional President Saeed Abdullahi Deni announced on Thursday.

In a detailed address on the ongoing operations, Deni highlighted the efforts of regional forces to dismantle ISIS strongholds in the rugged terrain of the Al Miskad mountain range. He vowed that the offensive would continue relentlessly until the area is fully liberated from militant control.

The president also shared a striking account of heroism, recounting how a soldier courageously intercepted and dismantled a bomb-laden drone with his bare hands—a moment he described as a testament to the bravery and resilience of Puntland’s forces.

Deni emphasized that the unwavering support of local communities has been instrumental in the operation’s progress, with residents providing critical assistance to the troops. He pledged that no effort would be spared to eradicate the terror group, which has until recently maintained a destabilizing influence not only in rural areas but also in major urban centers beyond its traditional strongholds.
