Somali Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur has confirmed an airstrike in Middle Shabelle, targeting Al-Shabaab militants on Friday.

The strike was conducted with full backing from the Somali government and is part of an ongoing strategy to dismantle the militant group’s operations across the region.

This airstrike marks a key step in Somalia’s broader efforts to combat terrorism and ensure stability.

Minister Nur emphasized that these military actions align with the government’s plan to weaken Al-Shabaab’s foothold in the country and enhance national security.

Additionally, Somalia has recently approved the deployment of Ethiopian troops under the newly established African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

This mission replaces the previous African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), signaling a shift in the international community’s approach to supporting Somalia’s fight against terrorism and restoring peace.

The new mission aims to provide sustained security and assistance to the Somali government in its battle against Al-Shabaab militants.

The continued cooperation between Somali forces, Ethiopian troops, and the African Union highlights the growing regional commitment to ending the Al-Shabaab threat and fostering long-term peace in Somalia.
