MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somali pirates hijacked a Yemeni fishing vessel off the coast of Eyl town in northeastern Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland region on Sunday, Caasimada Online news website reported.
The vessel, licensed by Puntland authorities, was seized by armed assailants, and its current whereabouts remain unknown. Regional officials confirmed the incident but provided no further details.
This marks the first piracy incident off Somalia’s coast this year, following a resurgence of such attacks last year, including the hijacking of a Chinese fishing vessel in November, which was later released after a ransom payment.
