On Monday, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud unveiled Somalia’s National Vision 2060 in Mogadishu, urging a shift to direct presidential elections and calling on Somalis everywhere to unite in pursuit of peace, development, and national cohesion.
Addressing the launch ceremony, President Mohamud emphasized that the time had come for the Somali people to directly choose their leaders—a step he described as vital for building a peaceful, unified, and forward-looking nation.
“We must move beyond despair and embrace innovation and collective action,” he said. “This vision serves as a bridge between our present and our future—the legacy we leave behind and the promise we pass on to the next generation.”
Vision 2060, the President explained, represents a generational pledge to lay the groundwork for a prosperous, self-reliant Somalia—one capable of competing with advanced economies on the global stage.
The framework rests on three core pillars:
• National unity and the preservation of Somali values
• Homegrown solutions grounded in local realities
• Governance driven by the public interest
President Mohamud called on all Somalis—both at home and in the diaspora—to actively engage in bringing the vision to life, stressing that its success depends on the collective commitment of the Somali people.
“Somalia has entered a new era,” he declared, underscoring the country’s steady path toward sustainable progress and long-term development.
