MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday embarked on his second day of official engagements in Azerbaijan, where he met with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev, in Baku. During this visit, the two leaders oversaw the signing of a series of pivotal agreements, encompassing key sectors such as education, energy, defense, and governance.
“In their presence, the two governments signed significant agreements in education, energy, defense, and governance, reaffirming their commitment to deeper cooperation and shared development,” Villa Somalia said in a statement.
This marks President Mohamud’s first visit to Azerbaijan since his re-election in mid-2022. Since then, he has undertaken numerous overseas trips, many of which his critics have derided as a misallocation of time and resources, questioning their overall benefit to Somalia’s priorities.
