Somaliland president Irro complains to UN about Sool region militia incursions

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, widely known as Irro, has lodged complaint with the United Nations over what he described as “multifront attacks” by authorities in Sool region, undermining his administration’s efforts to foster peace and reconciliation.

During a meeting on Wednesday with UN envoy to Somalia James Swan, who visited Somaliland, President Irro expressed his frustration over the hostilities. He revealed that upon assuming office late last year, his immediate priority was to initiate peace talks and reconciliation efforts.

However, instead of reciprocating, Sool regional authorities allegedly responded with aggressive incursions along Somaliland’s borders, aimed at derailing his peace initiatives.

The Somaliland leader informed Swan that his administration has established a peace council tasked with achieving lasting stability and reconciliation across the self-declared republic. He urged the UN to bolster its support for Somaliland’s three-decade-long pursuit of peace and stability, emphasizing the need for international backing to consolidate these efforts.
